My mom and I threw a fabulous (we think!) bridal shower for my sister, Alanna, yesterday! The day started out cloudy and threatening to rain, but after pleading to the weather gods, we got ended up with a gorgeous sunny day that wasn’t too hot! I wanted to have a ladies garden party theme, so on the invite we suggested that ladies wear sun hats and sundresses, but we didn’t require it. So, it was so fun to see everyone show up dressed to the nines in hats and dresses! They all played along! We served light pasta salads, kale salad, strawberry soup & mac and cheese for lunch, along with pink lemonade punch and peach sun tea. For dessert we had peach schnapps cake with banana cream cheese frosting, rice krispies treats, cookies. The special dessert was chocolate pudding in glass flour pots and we put mint sprigs in to look like a potted plant…garden theme!!
I didn’t want to do too many traditional bridal shower games (I think they get tedious), but I do love the toilet paper fashion game where you design a wedding dress. And this was just the creative and fun crowd to do it with! Also, because my sister is a teacher, we did an Alanna pop quiz. Everyone lounged and chatted and looked so beautiful in all their hats!
The special activity was to help sew a quilt top for Alanna & Tyler. I had seen this done on another blog and thought it was the coolest thing! Everyone at the party gets to contribute their artistic touch to something that the couple can have forever! What a great long lasting gift! I sewed a basic tree outline and then cut out some flower shapes that people could use, plus extra fabric that they could cut original shapes out of. The results were amazing! We told everyone just to do a basic basting stitch and my mom and I will finish the quilt for Alanna.
The day was amazing and the decorating was so fun- thanks to my mom’s extensive vintage collection- and everyone’s awesome, festive vibe!! Now on to the wedding…!!
